THE Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) has set aside P160 million next year to purchase equipment that will boost the government’s bid to develop the coco-coir industry.

PCA administrator Euclides G. Forbes said a team from the agency went to Kerala, India to look for equipment that will be add value to coco coir fiber.

The regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry here is engaging several communities in Davao Oriental in the production of coconut-based materials.

Provincial Director Belenda Ambi of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI in an interview said that more coco-twining communities are now being developed to meet the demands for coco-nets.

BAGUIO CITY—The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is going back to the basics to protect mountain roads.
They are turning to cheap, natural solutions to prevent soil erosion that perennially damages roads, drainage systems, bridges and mountainsides in the upland region, said Edilberto Carabbacan, DPWH Cordillera director.
